Bio

Imran Khan is a London-born fingerstyle guitarist, as much at home playing the Beatles as Tchaikovsky, Ray Charles or even Queen. His guitar style is refined as is sure to wow any audience. His repertoire is truly eclectic, yet somehow Imran can follow a Stevie Wonder song with a piece of Polish Khlezmer as it it were the most natural thing in the world.

Imran’s playing style is best described as like a classical guitarist, but a non-classical repertoire. “He plays one guitar. It sounds like two” (L. Mauer, Allgemeine Zeitung).

For the past two years, Imran has been busking nearly every day in the UK and Germany, and this has allowed him to hone his craft and he’s now able to deliver a stunning live show.

Playing the guitar since the age of 13, Imran’s repertoire reflects his upbringing - he grew up in various countries in South-East Asia before settling in multi-cultural London aged 16. Based in London, his keen interest in music has taken him to France, Cuba, central America and West Africa. Imran has not only an ear for music, but also for languages - he can speak (and sing in) English, French, Italian and Spanish.

Upon hearing Tommy Emmanuel for the first time, Imran permanently hung up his electric guitar in favour of the humble acoustic. After spending years learning how to make the acoustic guitar sound like two guitars, Imran started trying to figure out how to play his favourite pieces of music on solo acoustic guitar.

Apart from a sprinkling of Tommy Emmanuel pieces, none of the pieces that Imran plays were originally intended for the guitar - these include piano and accordion compositions, Orchestral pieces, classic rock songs, even old jazz numbers.

In 2018, Imran recorded and released his debut album “Amélie”, his 16 arrangements of Yann Tiersen’s beloved soundtrack to the 2001 film ‘Amélie’.
